A massive deposit of rare earth metals has been discovered
underneath Southern Lithuania.
The deposit has been discovered by US contractors
constructing a new NATO base in Lithuania. Economic analysts in every major
nation are urging their respective governments to take action, in one form or
another, immediately. Lithuania has already nationalised the site, with no recompense to the USA.
98% of the world’s production of rare earth metals is in
China, despite them controlling a minority of the world’s supply. International
analysts agree that whomever controls the deposit MAY be able to break China’s
monopoly, thereby making rare earth production across the world
economically-viable again – particularly the US, who have had to close domestic mines in
recent years due to China’s undercutting. Regardless of their motivations, the
controller of the deposit will wield, it is believed, substantial political power and influence over world markets.
