FRENCH FOREIGN MINISTER KILLED IN PLANE CRASH

The French foreign minister has been killed in a plane crash.  She was flying home, back from an international conference when her plane was intercepted and brought down by a MiG fighter.  While the French government plane tried to evade the fighter, several other MiGs were found and a large aerial dogfight ensued.

This took place over German sovereign territory and it is unsure why German anti-aircraft missiles did not protect the plane.  To ensure the security of the flight, which was originally flying from Brussels to Paris, it shadowed a civilian commercial flight from Dusseldorf to Paris.  The minister's plane crashed into a field near Cologne.
