In response to the massive resource find in Lithuania China
has further contracted the supply of rare earth metals on world markets,
driving their value up even further.
Rare earth metals are used in a huge amount of electronic
devices, including military technologies, and supply is controlled almost
exclusively by China. As economic analysts across the world continue to state,
controlling the new Lithuanian deposit would give massive political, economic,
and strategic power to whomever is able to exploit the resources.
News is beginning to emerge of the USA engaging in
negotiations with Lithuania to take a slice of the deposit for itself. Sources
can also confirm that US troops leaving the bases they were expelled from in
Poland have at least in part gone to Lithuanian bases – a build-up perhaps
5,000 troops. If other countries do not stake a claim to these resources and
the US succeed in their negotiations, it seems likely that US hegemony over
NATO, Northern Europe and indeed the world will be unassailable.
