USA Press Release The United States is highly concerned by the xenophobia present in France and the United Kingdom to Syrian refugees in the wake of this grave humanitarian crisis. We call upon France to take greater efforts to provide an adequate response to the riots in Marseille and to condemn any forms of discrimination based upon nationality. Furthermore, the United States expresses deep concern over the loss of lives in the recent cruise ship crash in Sunderland and argues that this exemplifies the need to safeguard the safe passage of refugees across borders. Therefore the United States strongly urges all nations to accommodate and provide direct financial assistance to Syrian refugees, who often amount to vulnerable members of society travelling great distances in perilous conditions. It is essential that in enabling the passage of such people into other nations, that such a process is controlled and that these people are given proper and equal opportunities to integrate into those societies and contribute positively to their development.
