Security in Sunderland in response to refugees, is it working?
Police forces have been placed on a higher alert following the recent high tensions in Sunderland between angry locals thought to be politically motivated in their attacks and the refugees who since arrived less than a month ago through a disaster at sea. Initial reports suggested that this may calm the issue and prevent fighting. As what has been seen thus far, the number of incidents have fallen considerably, but the severity of the few attacks have increased dramatically with some refugees having to be taken to hospitals. In one certain case one refugee died of her wounds in hospital, the assailant has since been arrested with searches for other attackers being among the high priorities in the policing in the Wearside area.
